· Featured Fights: Miller Draws Diaz; A Look Back At Diaz vs. Guillard
UFC President Dana White announced via twitter yesterday that come UFC on Fox 3, Jim Miller and Nate Diaz will face off in what is likely a title eliminator for the lightweight division. Diaz recently set the UFC record for most power shots landed in dominant showing over Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC 141. Miller recently took a submission of the night victory over Melvin Guillard in the main event of UFC on FX 1.
Miller’s win last Saturday over Guillard came on the heels of a lopsided decision loss to current number-one contender Benson Henderson. While victory was achieved, Miller was not met without resistance from “The Young Assassin.” Guillard was able to stun Miller with his speed and power early in the fight. However, the Jersey native was able to survive an early onslaught and take advantage of Guillard’s recklessness. After taking the back of the Blackzillian fighter, Miller was able to hand “The Young Assassin” the sixth submission loss of his UFC career at just 2:04 into the fight.
Another submission mark against Guillard came at the hands of Miller’s next opponent, Nate Diaz.
When the Cesar Gracie brown belt and the New Orleans native met at UFC Fight Night 19 in 2009, much like in the aforementioned fight, Guillard started out strong, peppering the Stockton native with punches throughout the opening stanza. Come the second frame, Diaz managed to find his range, forcing Guillard to shoot. The jiu-jitsu ace was quickly able to lock in a modified guillotine, forcing his foe to tap at the 2:13 mark.
